“What is Chi Beta Delta?” is a question I get asked countless times. Often I answer in simple terms, along the lines of “Sisterhood through Service.” But, of course I am writing this blog to tell you that it is much, much more than that. In fact, more than I can put into words, but I’ll give it my best shot.
Many of you can agree that college is a time unlike any other. These years away from home are full of new friends, expansion of knowledge, and self-discovery. During this time, we are exposed to a plethora of new experiences that shed a new light in our lives. We learn new things from the classes we take, but we also learn from the people around us. Personally, I had the pleasure of serving as an associate member, an active member, and as Chief Service Officer of XBΔ.
It goes unsaid that service is the language of our sorority. I joined XBΔ Fall of 2013 and almost immediately, through the kindheartedness of my sisters, community service became more than just a nice résumé enhancement. The members of XBΔ serve to express our compassion for our community, our dedication to change the world, and (equally as important) our love for one another. With our devotion to each other and 1,630+ community service hours combined, I am honored to discover this light my sisters have shed into my life, not only for our sisterhood, but also for the opportunity of being a part of something much bigger than myself.
I guess what I am trying to say is that it is impossible to learn how to be the best version of yourself until you experience something like the essence of XBΔ. Up until this point, I had not realized the fullness of my heart for this sorority and all that it stands for until I had to put it into words. I’ll save you from further sappiness by wrapping this up, but I would like to say thank you for reading what XBΔ means to me and, of course, thank you to all my wonderful sisters.
Endless XBΔ love,
Shannen Pritts, Rho Class
